Jimi Hendrix is arguably the best rock guitarist of all time. He was also an amazing performer, something which is often overlooked. This site is dedicated to the stage banter Jimi Hendrix would often engage in, making his live performances truly unique.

Is it too loud?

Here's the intro to "Johnny B. Goode" from the Berkeley Community Theater in 1970 (thanks Pamatmat):

Johnny B. Goode intro mp3

Jimi says:

"Uh,'scuse us for tuning up every once in a while but like uh, I guess you know cowboy's gonna wanna stay in tune anyways so... Give us about three minutes. [tunes] Is it too loud out there? Is it too loud? [crowd yells] [unintelligible] Dig um we got this other thing called um, I don't know, we like to do a little loose jam type of thing. 'Johnny B. Goode' what the hell."

Just in case you were wondering, this bit of Jimi banter did not come from Monterey in 1967. Instead it was from the Berkeley Community Theater on Memorial Day in 1970.

The crowd aren't unintelligible. They're almost all yelling 'NOOOOO!'

Did Jimi ask the "too loud" question at the first or second show?

I was there and I remember him asking the question but I don't remember which show I attended.
